Villages de Provences

A bright day with skies as blue as they can only be in Provence. So off we went to visit nearby villages sitting atop the hills, overlooking the sea. 

Charming -- as I remembered them: natural stone houses, muted colors on the walls, deep green trees, and of course, that sky...

The main pic is from the village of Ramatuelle (also featured as a whole in extras), perched on a hillside, with a history dating back to the middle ages  surrounded by fortifications and streets that are concentric -- you can't ever get lost there ;) We had a great lunch of local specialties and a bit of rosé at a street café, enjoying the vistas.

We also stopped by Gassin, another hillside village with 360 degree views of both the sea and the mountain ranges and today, as clear as it was, we could see all the way to the Alps in the distance. It's believed to be one of the oldest villages in the region, dating back to Roman times. The other extra is from the arches of the fortifications surrounding that village.

The thing I loved most about that village is that it claims the "smallest street in the world" (see extra where my husband is just barely squeezing through!). Very quaint.

We drove through a stretch of the vine road for a bit, then headed back to chill at the beach. Nice day :)
