Grand Canal in Venice ...
... from the top of the Accademia Bridge, one of the city's highest. The domed church is the Salute, opposite the San Marco embankment, which is out of sight on the left. We were in the process of visiting six churches: Santa Maria del Giglio, San Maurizio (now simply a small but lovely museum of musical instruments), Santo Stefano, and San Vitale preceded the bridge. On the other side, after a further short vaporetto ride, we visited San Sebastiano and Santa Maria dei Carmini. (I'll leave it to you to find them on the internet if you are curious--I'm a bit tired of putting in links.) San Sebastiano stood out with wonderful works by Paolo Veronese (1528-1588), who is buried in the church. In the Carmini was a wonderful work by Lorenzo Lotto, one of our favorite painters of the 16th century--it's unique, don't miss it :) A a good day, but exhausting. Even so, I went out again to photograph the late shadows (ca. 17:00) on the canal bridge near our apartment--see the extra (many of you know that I'm often a bit obsessed with shadows :)
