Xanadu

What was intended as an ordinary grocery run to the supermarket began with the unexpected discovery, on the highest level of one of Istanbul's many - but nearest - pleasure domes, Akmerkez shopping centre,  a new music shop, an emporium of shiny new instruments of every shape, size and sound system surrounding the customer with sensory overload.  Initially overwhelmed at the potential of this colourful fairground of fun -  I gravitated to the piano section and for an undetermined amount of time, blissfully indulged in a "bits of Bach" fest on a series of adjacent grand pianos before reluctantly walking away.

This was after a morning of "Back to School" when parents come to class in lieu of their offspring, to taste the minestrone of experience that is a typical school day, and, for my students in particular, spend time in the sanctuary that is the music department.

Of course, all tendencies at pretentiousness evaporated during an evening of TV and knitting as I gradually remembered how to breathe out.
