Black Day for Bcn
Starting a long haul of back blips. Bear with me and no need to comment!
Am adding a few sentences here just for the record.
Terrorist attack in Las Ramblas, Barcelona leaving 15 dead and many seriously injured.
It happened just two blocks from the school where I was working. We had just finished our input session when one of our trainees said, looking at her phone, 'Something's happened on the Ramblas'. This was at 5.15pm and we were still all there in the school till 9.45pm. My colleague Philippa and I had to make sure all our trainees contacted their families to let them know they were safe and that they got home safely that night and had somewhere safe to sleep. Quite a few were in accommodation for the month just off Las Ramblas and couldn't get back there as the area had been cordoned off. Lifts were offered by those who had cars, other trainees offered their sofas and others offered to walk people back home. Solidarity all round.
With Bb being in Scotland I made sure he knew I was safe (he hadn't heard about when I called) and then had to call our friend Dot who'd just arrived in the morning from Scotland for the weekend, was in our house, and had planned to come and meet me early evening. She hadn't heard about it either, but agreed to stay near our house. Philippa and I eventually joined her at 10pm for a bite to eat. Philippa christened our new sofa bed as she stays out of Barcelona and there were no trains. it didn't hit us till the next night when we were walking to catch our respective bus and train and we both started crying and hugging each other.
