Parc du Verdon
Before we left Provence, we took a journey up to the Parc du Verdon -- a bit of a trip but so well worth it: it's magnificent!
We first came across the Lac de Sainte Croix (the entirety of it you can see in the extra) with its turquoise waters and bouldered shores. The waters are crystal clear and we waded in, much regretting not having taken out our swimsuits. We had a wonderful lunch at a local restaurant in Les Salles du Verdon, where they took us in like we were family -- a nice change from the overly touristy places on the Riviera.
We then drove along the river Verdon that feeds the lake (the main is a pic of one of its many spectacular gorges). The landscape along the top of the river gorges was amazing with stark and sharp rock faces, dotted with 'bruyère' and views out to the next mountain ranges of the Alpes Haute Provence department (see extra). The river carved its way deep down gorges that make your head swim. I wish we'd have taken a couple of days to explore that area more thoroughly. Next time!
Back home in Alsace now where I finally have access to wifi again! I posted a couple of backblips if of interest to anyone. Now a 'tourte' for dinner while catching up with the news (I'm almost afraid of doing that. I hope Trump behaved!) ;)
