A Day at the Races
Location: Uttoxeter Race Course, Staffordshire
We were honoured to be guests of Lee, the groom from the wedding I photographed earlier this summer, at Uttoxeter races this afternoon. He is a professional jockey and I only have the greatest admiration for these sportspeople after watching the races at close quarters.
The course wasn't the best to capture images of the races, in most cases an inner rail on the track caused a partial obstruction of the view for the hurdle races, but when the steeplechase took place there was a vantage point that provided an unobstructed view. I'd love to have captured a shot of Lee in action, but he only had rides in the hurdles. Fortunately, I was able to capture Alex, his brother, in the orange with black disc and hooped sleeves. Alex is an amateur jockey who came second in the point-to-point championship last season.
Kat, the bride, was a wonderful host and fund of knowledge on the sport. All in all it meant so much more to know people involved in the racing. A great afternoon.
