Loo with a view
Loos in the back country tend to have their disadvantages. I'll leave them all to your imagination ;-)
On a warm sunny day, 1000m above sea level, the loo at the Ces Clark Hut in the Paparoa Range has a spectacular view. All the disadvantages are completely cancelled by this jaw dropping view.
That's the Grey Valley with the Grey River beneath me, a sliver of Lake Brunner in the middle distance and the Southern Alps beyond. Aoraki Mt Cook, the highest peak in NZ is just out sight to my right.
It's a long drive from Christchurch to Black Ball, especially when it's 4 big blokes and me crammed into a Toyota Surf with all our gear. But it's not hugely strenuous 4 hours to the hut. Just enough to earn a whiskey with fancy cheese and crackers before dinner :-)
Another good day in the hills.
