Bolting Bactrians!
... in other words, Racing Camels!
We had a thoroughly good day out at the Nidderdale Show, held every year in Pateley Bridge. It rained on us for most of the time, but our spirits were not dampened.
This year, in addition to the more sensible and traditional activities of a country show, there were Joseph's amazing racing camels.
Amongst todays extras are a chainsaw sculpture artist at work and a traditional dry stone walling competition.
There were many other activities going on too such as a speed (sheep) shearing competition, sheep dog trials, terrier racing, horse trials and a parade of vintage farm machinery. All were being taken very seriously by the competitors and judges.
In case you didn't know, a Bactrian is a two-humped camel, whereas a one-humped camel is a Dromedary. Today's racers were all Bactrians!
