Sanitary Flowers

The last day of September is here, so I thought that some kind of Blipfoto contribution was warranted to mark the occasion. However, we've been working around the house and garden all day, so that the range of subjects for photographs has been rather limited.

However, I thought that these plant pots might provide some amusement. They are a couple of old lavatory cisterns that we found dumped behind some bushes when we arrived at our new home more than six years ago. We thought that they might just make useful containers for outdoor plants after they had been cleaned up and the unwanted holes sealed. In fact, they have proved remarkably successful, and we have had all sorts of plants grow well in them.

In the background, you can see that the sunflowers are bravely carrying on, although the new blooms are few, and rather small. The glorious big flowers have now gone, or become very dog-eared. Still, with luck they will yield fertile seeds for next year.

This close-up of one of the pots shows the decking on which it stands, and I've shown the photograph as a boast, because we went over all the decking with the pressure washer this morning to give it a partial clean before winter sets in. Still, we rewarded ourselves with a lunch of some Aberdeen Angus fillet steak, cooked rare, (and chips, of course), with a couple or so glasses of wine. Life is hard!
