Light and Shade

Strange weather!

The first day of October was rather warm and balmy here, with quite a lot of sun. Here, we are looking down one of the avenues in our local park that must have been planted out when it was still a grand estate. I was struck by the shadows that the trees cast on the path and the green turf. The colour of the grass in the photograph is not far off what the eye saw: all the grass on and around the cricket pitch, off to the left of the path, is unusually luxuriant.

Sunny and warm it may have been, but the shadows are already quite long by around 4:00 pm. The short days are on their way...

And the weather changes suddenly. Within a few minutes of taking this photograph, black clouds loomed up from the west (the view in the photograph is to the south), and the wind strengthened. No more warm, sunny, balmy day! Time to go home, we thought. After another five minutes, it started raining quite heavily, so we made a wise decision.
