San Marcos from Double Peak Park
A day of two halves. A good walk along the ridge line of Double Peak Park with the city of San Marcos set out before us. In the centre of the shot is the San Marcos Lake resort which has some pretty pricy lakeshore properties. It was an out and back walk of 6 miles overall, quite warm but better walking weather than previous days. \
Back home for a spot of lunch and a shower before the second half - a craft beer outlet crawl to belatedly celebrate Chris's birthday in August. Apparently the San Diego area has the most craft beer brewers in the whole of the country. Of the 130 different breweries we went to three! So there are plenty more to try. It seemed like a tour of retail and industrial parks as this is where all these breweries are located. Some breweries are more comfortable than others, some are quite basic.
The first, Mother Earth, was in the latter category with high stools and a less than inviting ambience. Beer was good though. The three of us had a flight of 4 different beers, each of 6ozs, chosen from a long list of varying types and strengths.
From there we travelled, with De'Shaun as the designated driver to Booze Brothers for another flight of 4 but this time of 4oz glasses. But much stronger beers, the minimum was 6%. More pleasant environment and a little more comfortable for De'Shaun too. We thought we ordered a small glass for Susan but it came as a pint! We had to help her finish it.
The final brewery was Latitude 33, obviously named after the line of latitude. Here I only had 3 glasses while Chris went for the full flight of 6. Susan declined further beers but sipped all of mine. I've created a collage representing the tour on the extras.
To soak up that alcohol we called in at Landon's Restaurant, newly opened, and named in honour of baby Landon, due later this month. (I don't think so). Good burger and plenty of water helped to counter the effect of the beers. Plenty of choices for future tours.
Good news from home in that elder son Matthew messaged to say that he had come top of the bowling figures for his club this season. A great achievement, coming late into the sport. He really enjoys his cricket!
