Basilica: Capitals and More
Today we toured the full religious complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč, which dates from the sixth century. The basilica is by far the main attraction; yesterday I blipped the superb mosaic of the apse. Today I had free run of the basilica, but afterwards I was not happy with the selection of shots that I'd taken (other than a series of the sculptured capitals, which are wonderful). The image I'm posting at least shows several capitals, and also several of the reliefs which arch between the capitals (a feature which I do not recall having seen before). The extra shows the entrance space of the complex, with the west front of the basilica and a further pair of capitals. And now to bed.
