Trieste's Main Square...

... Piazza Unitá d'Italia, as it's properly called.  This image is more than a bit miraculous.  i was riding in a middle back seat in a van from Porec to the train station in Trieste, and we drove by the square.  The gloomy image reflects exactly the nature of the rainy day. The other aspect of the miracle is that the square was entirely unspoiled by temporary structures, as it had been during our stay ten days ago.

From the station we took a train to a hotel close to the Venice airport, from whence we fly tomorrow to our next European destination--stay tuned :)
