Politics in Focus

High office in politics these days means you look set for something of a roller coaster ride and judging by present turmoil seemingly apparent in government, you and I can never be sure of what is going to happen next . . . or even who might be leading our destiny.
Just maybe, Lord Palmerston,, or strictly the 3rd Viscount Palmerston, has a smile on his bronze statue face looking down from his plinth in the centre of the Hampshire market town of Romsey.
His home was at Broadlands, the Palladian style country mansion on the outskirts of the town, and later home to the Mountbatten family. Palmerston was twice British Prime Minister in the mid 19th century and held office for most of the last ten years of his life, although he was in government for 46 years, which by anyone’s standards is a lifetime.
In fact it was not until he was 70 that he first became Prime Minister.

So while his time and career is well documented by historians, perhaps there is just a tip or two up his bronze sleeve that he could impart to our present politicians.
