Big water everywhere, the drive was like a river. Johns family are arriving this afternoon for the weekend, their village was mentioned on R4 at 1.00 today, the road past Bothel was closed due to flooding and my heart went out to all those Cumbrians who could be affected.

A busy morning cooking mostly taken up with making a large pork pie at brother in laws request. Fingers crossed it was worthwhile. The 'jelly' from 3 trotters is now cooling, I may wait till the morning before pouring it in. I used a Nigel Slater recipe, tried some years ago and a memorable feast, hence the request. Also in the fridge a mixture ready to make into faggots, we used to buy them in a foil tray 45 years ago. John would know finances were tight when faggots appeared on the table. It will be interesting to see how they turn out. The mix is basically pork shoulder/belly, streaky bacon and half a pigs heart. Our local pig farmer - Fiona - gave me the trotters and heart.
