Saturday: Retro Entrance

We had a few Saturday-type errands today, including getting a new battery for my watch. That turned out to be a pretty random experience. We had googled local watch repairs and found ourselves outside a local residential block. The watch repairer was in an apartment so up we headed.

We were greeted very effusively by Mohammed, the watch repairer, and his wife, Niki. Their apartment was a complete time warp stuffed full of antique velvet furniture. We were chatting while looking at the watch and, at some point, we mentioned we had a lot of books and that it could be an issue transporting them around the world. Before we knew it, Niki had taken every book off the shelf (they didn't have that many), declaring 'you love books like we love watches' and made us look through each one. They then got out a whole of contemporaneous magazines about the Royal Family, ranging from Charles and Anne in their childhood, to the Queen's Silver Jubilee and other celebratory publications - rather randomly, they said they didn't even particularly like the Royal Family and didn't know who half the people there. It was all rather odd, but entertaining - it was quite some time before we managed to emerge.....

Anyway, my watch now works.........
