Meet the Author

One of the big events of the semester happened today at the campus. The Library's "Read 2 Succeed" series presented "Meet the Author" -- Kevin Bash, Mayor of the City of Norco.

For over an hour Mayor Bash spoke enthusiastically about the city that the college is located in. Bash and his wife, Brigitte Jouxtel, an internationally known photographer, have both authored books about the community. Together they have written two books on Norco's history: The Norconian Resort and The Navy in Norco.

During the last few years, Bash has compiled interviews, historical research, and photographs of the Norcoian Resort, the U.S. Naval Hospital, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, and the California Rehabilitation Center.

He was an excellent speaker. I was sorry that I had to leave about 15 minutes before he was through because my duty in the Writing Center was about to begin. Mr. Fun had also come to this event, so he was able to stay the entire time and even to speak with Kevin when the presentation was over. He also purchased both of the books.

We've known Kevin for 40+ years because his parents owned and operated the best preschool daycare center in the community and both of our children attended their school when they were youngsters and I first went to school.

The heat was hideous again today. We are inviting, anticipating, and looking forward to the weather cooling soon.
