St Cuthbert

Threatened by Danish invasion, the body of St Cuthbert was carried across northern England and Southern Scotland by monks. In the 10th century his body went to its resting place in Durham. This is the evocative elmwood carving by Fenwick Lawson the Church of St Mary the Virgin on Holy Island.

Extra: Apocalyptic sky on Holy Island. A weird sky all day on the island, rain, thick mist, red sky, sun a bright disc... it seems this is sand scooped up from the Sahara and transported ahead of Ophelia at very high altitude.
