14C sunny, light breeze and occasional showers.

Maeve the Deerhound and I went for our walk after lunch. We walked up to the church and made a little detour through the graveyard, which we sometimes do. As we came out of the gate we saw a tractor parked at the gate of the first field on the left. There was another in the field working up and down the rows of potatoes, removing the tops from the plants (which have been acid sprayed to kill the tops off).

We walked on and turned right down the field with the bridle path. The bales are still there in their rows. More are scattered around at the far side of the field and there is still straw lying loose in rows too. As we walked along the cycle path a train passed us heading South. I checked my watch and as expected it was 1.39pm. We went through the little field of sheep between the cycle path and the railway line and over the level crossing. The tide was out a good bit today so we got good firm damp sand for Maeve to walk on. We found some Sea Glass too, one or two quite big pieces.

At the Fishermen's huts there was one man working on what looked like a door. Sawing and hammering at a workbench near the line of the dunes as Maeve and I looked for pictures around the boats and tractors. There was also a couple. They were trying to get a fire going in an old barrel down on the sand.

As Maeve the Deerhound and I walked past the Westhaven cottages we stopped for a moment in the shade of a tree to look at the blue of the sea and take a picture showing the 'boat channel' and the rocks beyond. It had to be the blip for today. We noticed a little chair by the hut in the garden. South facing. Nice place to sit on a warm afternoon we thought :-)

We carried on over the road bridge and along the road past the newer church, which is still old. Just for a change I decided to turn left instead of right at the bottom of the main road that runs up and out of Carnoustie. That took us up and over a footbridge and back across the railway line near the station. The rain came on! We walked along towards the Golf Hotel to have a look to see what has been set up for the Alfred Dunhill Links Challenge golf event that will take place from Thursday to Saturday. Not as much to see as when The Open comes. No stands, and not so many fences and barriers to guide the spectators from the stations to the golf course. Celebrities and professional golfers (including some of our Ryder Cup Team) will play Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, and St Andrews. Some on each course on each of the three days. The conclusion of the event is on Sunday at St Andrews only and that is the only day spectators have to pay.

From the Golf Hotel we went up to the High Street and back along to rejoin our usual route home on the main road. We dried off on the way.

Later Maeve was and is fast asleep after her longer walk. I have reminded her that a year ago today I posted my first blip. It was a portrait of Maeve. I'm not so sure that she remembers posing. She has, however, become a very good photographer's assistant :-)
