One month to go

With still a whole month to go before Guy Fawkes Night, the bonfire on the village green in Brockham is already taking shape. It is strictly controlled by a village committee and I think it must be an engineer who supervises the building, it is so immaculate!.
Brockham Bonfire is a huge event. The village is closed to traffic from mid afternoon and a Park and Ride system operates. The money taken from parking fees pays for the following year's fireworks. A torchlight procession through the village precedes the lighting of the bonfire. Thousands of people attend. The collections raise about £20,ooo which is given away to local organisations and good causes.
It's a very much bigger event than it was when I used to go as a teenager, very many years ago.
