Grand Central Station

We had a more leisurely start to the day - not Gavin, he had a 7.30am meeting but Thomas and I only met for breakfast at 9.30am. Thomas was not feeling too well today, he has a cold and a sore throat, so we scaled back our plans for the day. We were on our way to the MOMA when we passed the Trump Tower, and Thomas asked to go in. I was surprised we were allowed in with all the tight security but we went in and Thomas was very impressed by the luxuriant interior. We had a coffee there and then headed off to the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art)

The MOMA consists of 6 floors and quite honestly most floors were only partly open due to the preparation of forthcoming exhibitions, but the 5th floor was fabulous with a very worthwhile collection of famous modern works of art including Van Gogh's Starry Night, many Picassos, Matisse, Monet, Kadinsky.... The 6th floor had a very interesting fashion exhibition, displaying iconic items of fashion including things like the first hoodie and platform shoes in addition to the arty Alexander McQueen and Versace outfits.

We then went to Grand Central Station where we had lunch which was pretty awful - most tables in the food area were occupied by homeless people with their heads down and snoring away...not a great place to eat lunch! I do not find New York as clean as London - a New Yorker would probably disagree with me. As for the noise - those sirens and hooters go all day, its a very noisy city. When we went back up to the concourse level there was a wedding shoot taking place - a proper one and not a posed pre-wedding Asian bride shoot. I snuck in next to the photographer and took this shot, balancing my camera on the ledge as I did not have a tripod.

Then we walked back along 5th Avenue, enjoying seeing all the beautiful architecture and stopping off at the Rockefeller Centre to watch the ice skaters. 

I have added some extras of a reflected building and a window cleaner - I would hate to do his job! 

Tomorrow night we fly home but first we have the day with Gavin to spend in New York which will be good. It is forecast to be sunny and 23C tomorrow! Luke is at home, he arrived tonight after work - he has a final assessment on Monday with one of the accounting companies he has applied to, so it will be lovely to see him when we get back.
