The Back of the Garden
On the left is the compost bin, newly restored by Mr S, and strengthened to keep out rodents; the box on top is a soil sifter--it has a screen on the bottom to let the fine dirt pass through. Then an assortment of barrels, some empty, a couple containing shredded garden material or straw or finished compost. There are two wheelbarrows; both of them have holes in the bottom. The old gray wooden ladder is far from functional, but makes an interesting diversion. You can barely see the beginnings of the pile of unused lumber on the right--too good to throw away, but never the right size for whatever project comes up. The tree is a persimmon, which is just now coming back to life from its "restoration pruning," a butcher job from a couple years ago that hopefully has stimulated new growth. I hope we get fruit next year. On another slow day we may have a tour of the other back corner. Stay tuned.
