Colchicum macrophyllum

Revelling in the sunshine, as I was on my lunch break today.

Much bigger than yesterdays offering, with flowers opening wide to 5" across. Macrophyllum = big leaves although these come much later, in Springtime in fact. Another stunning Autumn bulb, this time from Crete, Rhodes and SW Turkey where it grows in dry, rocky terrain at up to 750m altitude. Here in the SE UK it grows happily in a warm, sunny spot and increases slowly.
