Farewell
We were sad to leave our lovely Lake District house and dragged out the last moments of our holiday with a late breakfast at Esquires in Ambleside.
We bid farwell to the Priors (they've had an awful journey by the sound of it-nearly 7 hours later, they are still 30 miles from home) and we set out for D's mum's. It's been a glorious day and we stopped at the top of Kirkstone pass so I could take some photos.
At 5 o'clock we met up with D's sister, husband and children and made our way over to Walton. In the early 1980's, a storm caused the loss of some trees in Walton churchyard. D's mum and dad bought and planted a copper beech tree and planted it in the churchyard. D's dad requested to have his ashes scattered around the tree and today, that's what we did. We also scattered the ashes of our old collie, Ben, who D's parents looked after for the last 3 years of his life.
We're now back at D's mum's for a big family dinner and no doubt, a few glasses of wine.
