Herwart Miessner
I wonder whether quite so many would be going to tonight’s concert in nearby Kempten if the singer was called Herwart Miessner rather than James Blunt.
Today’s main event was Storm Herwart which was adopted by a certain Mr Herwart Mießner who presumably lives somewhere in Germany. I have never heard the forename before. It’s meaning is apparently based on the old German words “Heer” and “Wart” or “Waechter” translated to Army Protector. Not that distant from Herbert which again comes from “Heer” and “beraht” meaning “Famed Soldier” again from the 10/11 century.
Well Herwart did his fair share of damage over northern Germany and Berlin overnight and has made today very unpleasant here in the south. Angie did, against my advice, take the dogs for a walk this morning but avoided the forests.
By this evening, I was lucky enough to just avoid the rain and only had a stiff breeze to contend with. Rain radar had shown we were exactly on the border of the rain belt today, the worst being over the alps which presumably got a decent amount of snow. Forecast last night was snow down to 1000m and we are at 630m. The temperature didn’t get to double figures and was shown with wind chill factor as being at +1°C.
Today marked probably the end of our PV self-sufficiency year. Yesterday we managed to cover our needs and get the hot water done but no chance today, not even enough to charge the battery. And for the first time this heating year we switched on the central heating. Had a good run I think and there will be good days ahead but the lowering sun trajectory is having a noticeable effect.
James' poster in the village didn’t fare too well during the storm and as I post 90 minutes before the concert starts there are still tickets to be had on the official site at around 50€.
