Rawley Point Lighthouse....

Since Tom's been feeling pretty well we decided to go do something fun today before he starts chemo again tomorrow. Although we'd read about Rawley Point Lighthouse, neither of us had ever seen it, so we drove North a couple of hours to Two Rivers to find it.
The U.S. Coast Guard has operated a lighthouse at Rawley Point since 1853, but when the original lighthouse wasn't functioning well, they removed it &  purchased this "Skeletal" style lighthouse--built in Chicago in 1884--and relocated it  from Chicago in 1894. It rises 113 feet above Lake Michigan, and It's lantern is one of the largest and brightest on the Great Lakes.
It was a beautiful day to be out walking around; a little nippy at 45 degrees, but sunny and clear. During the time we were out, we saw 7 hawks, 2 sand hill cranes and a mink! I haven't seen a mink since I was probably in my early teens! I've put some pictures in the extras: A few of the Lake, the old North Pier Lighthouse, (a pyramid wooden tower lighthouse built in 1876, deactivated in 1969 and donated to the city for it's display at it's Historic Fishing Village), and a view of the river that the North Pier sits alongside.
