Moot, You've Got Something On Your Nose
It's not often you get this kind of view of the Mootster. I think, as ever, he's looking very handsome. Yes despite the thing on his nose.
A day spent reading which was joyful. I was reading mainly about False Cognates - words that are spelled the same in English but have completely different meaning in German. There are quite a lot that have the same meaning but others where it could mean trouble. For example, the word Gift exists in German but here it means "poison". A gift or present would be das Geschenk.
That sort of thing interests me. And so do the words that when spoken in German, they conjure a very different picture. I found a word that fulfilled this function in a newspaper report today. It was a report about 2 young men and it used the every-day word to describe them as "2 Bubis". Which is the sort of thing that can get my attention.
You lose a million points if you pronounced it to rhyme with "hiss".
