Hastings Pier (aka The Plank).

‘This pier,” said the Earl of Granville, when he opened Hastings Pier in 1872, “appears to me to be a peerless pier – a pier without a peer – except, perhaps, the unfortunate peer who is now addressing you.”
In 2017, this pier has one 'Pier of the Year', and just yesterday, the  2017 RIBA Stirling Prize for the best new building. Who'd have thought, just seven years after the disastrous fire all but destroyed it, that such plaudits would be heaped.
It has to be said that it is rather minimalist in style (see extra) but it is a great space, and has already been used for concerts, films, festivals, markets and the like - or indeed somewhere just to sit and enjoy the views - particularly on a day like today.
