Wind in the sails.
Now home once again after a very enjoyable holiday.
Not a good start to the day as it was pouring down as we loaded the car, and didn't stop until we were near Sleaford.
However we did call for some Brancaster mussels, and Norfolk apples on the way.
Decided to make a detour to see the refurbished eight sail windmill at Great
Heckington.
The only working 8 sail tower windmill in the world.
We were delighted to see the sails going round, although there was hardly any wind.
Built in 1830, at first it had 5 sails.
Following a severe thunderstorm, which blew off the cap and sails, it was repaired in 1892 using a cap and 8 sails from a windmill in Boston.
It ceased work in 1946 and underwent restoration in 1986.
The new sails were fitted in 2014.
HRH Princess Anne officially opened the renovation project and visitor centre in October this year.
£ 1.6 million was mainly provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
We didn't have time to take a tour, and climb to the top.
I did however buy some flour, and oats. Oh and a fridge magnet to add to my collection.
Thank you all for your kind comments, stars and hearts, and for following our Norfolk holiday.
If you are off to celebrate Bonfire Night, enjoy. I think the weather should be fine.
There are certainly lots of fireworks going off round by us already.
I will be starting on my huge pile of washing tomorrow!
Extra photo taken of our holiday cottage garden just before we left.
