Sun sets on Dillon Beach

This is just the most perfect place in which to relax after the last few busy days. Dillon is quite a small township dating back to the 1900's with charming houses made of redwood and cedar, blending completely with the environment and the house we are renting is set high with wondrous views of the sea. We had a fabulous 5 mile walk today across wild, open land which looked not unlike areas in north west Scotland except the birds soaring on the thermals above us were vultures not buzzards, and the undergrowth was brown and dusty through lack of rainfall. Again though, the bushes that were semi-thriving were emitting musky herbal smells which were delightful. The walk eventually led us down a steep cliff onto a completely deserted sandy beach where we spent at least an hour enjoying the peace and quiet before we headed back home and I was very grateful that the sun was hidden behind clouds for most of our time out!

Later in the afternoon we headed down to the main beach with its huge expanse of white sand and where A went for a good run, along with a rather reluctant Kymba - she is not used to so much exercise in the heat of Vegas! I was content to potter along the shoreline and watched with fascination as two waders, not unlike our Oyster Catchers, darted in and out of the surf presumably catching something for their supper. By the time A and Kymba returned, the sun was sending out its final rays of the day as it snuggled into the low cloud base and the light was catching both the sea and the sand, the latter dampened by the ebbing surf. I love the way the light appears like fingers reaching out to bid us good night! ...... Which is what I am doing now, just as the UK wakes up!
