Down to the Woods Today
We at last made up our minds to get a mantel put in above our woodburner. We've been thinking about it for seven years or more.
Luckily there's no shortage of wood or woodworkers around here. Off we went to Buy Design where all manner of lovely ways of using timber are to be seen. The picture is taken in the courtyard behind the gallery. In warmer weather the owner works outside under the sail, and courses are sometimes held. TM went on one and made a chair, I must blip that sometime.
However, no mantels.
Luckily, just down the road are the Real Wood Studios. We saw more or less what we wanted in the showroom. Then we were ushered into a shed stacked with slices of oak, ash, elm, etc, and we chose the piece we wanted. Our name was written on a sturdy length of sycamore, and hopefully the next time we see it, it will be gracing our sitting room wall.
And it will have found a new home just a few miles from where it grew.
