Gondola jam

Today's the day . . . . . . . . to get around

It's an obvious fact that because there are no roads in Venice - there are no cars or buses or lorries - and it is a wonderfully quiet place to be.

All transport has to take to the water and that is everywhere.  If you're feeling flush you could have a water taxi all to yourself - but it will set you back 100 euros or so.  Better to take a vaporetto with the masses which will be much more reasonable.  Gondolas are really just for the tourists - so they can get that all important 'selfie' with the Rialto bridge in the background.

But really - the best way to get around is to walk.  There is so much to see with every step of the way.  There is something interesting round every corner - and no traffic to watch out for . . . . . . . . . .
