Natural Surprise

Many thanks to Ingeborg for once again hosting Abstract Thursday, with today's theme " Natural Surprise".
I thought this little owl, carved into the fallen tree ( see yesterday's blip)
fitted the bill, especially as it was now surrounded with the delicate fungus.
Nature improving on man, improving on nature.

As you can see I went back to Judy Woods again today, and this time with MrC.
It was a dull morning, and so we waited until the sun came out, just before lunch time.
We both marvelled at the intense colours of the beech trees, and the beautiful carpet of oak leaves.So peaceful except for the occasional dog walker, and the rustle of the wind through the leaves. 
We decided in future to visit these woods more often. Almost on our doorstep too.

I have lots of stories to tell of these woods, but for now I will just mention the track down to the bridge, ( see extra photo)  which was a former pack horse route between Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Could be said to be the ancient equivalent of a motorway.
