Sunday Lunch
Went out after lunch today to the National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street.
I hadn't realised that the building that I knew of as a kid as "the museum" is known as "the Royal Museum Building" and is currently completely shut for renovation until 2011.
so the areas that are open at present are all based around the "extension" if you like that is at the top of Chambers St on the corner of George 4th bridge.
I've never been into this new bit of the museum and was surprised at how big it was - there was certainly enough to while away a Sunday afternoon.
The "extension" was designed to host exhibitions detailing Scotland's history and it's absolutely amazing how integrated the exhibits feel - the building is very much designed around the exhibition pieces, with balconies, internal windows and such all connecting the spaces and showing off the collections to their best.
Well worth a visit!
Anyway, enough enthusing...
As with all museums, there's too much glass to get decent shots of things, but I reckon this shot is ok. It's of a leopard from the "Treasured" exhibition that shows off some of the pieces in the museum's collection whilst the main exhibition space is closed.
