Atatürk

Annual special ceremony to commemorate Atatürk who died on this day in 1938.  The respect across Turkey is something to behold.  At 9.05, when he breathed his last, everything stops - including all the traffic - for a minute of silence. The extra photo is of the national dance demonstration that was part of our special ceremony. It was extraordinary.  

The photo is the Atatürk statue bathed in sunset at Sabiha Gokcen airport where I whiled away several hours having arrived much too early for my 21.35 departure to the UK.
