Second of many...
You'll likely be seeing a lot of these cute little birds from me this winter. The Tufted Titmouse, arguably one of the cutest of all our backyard birds, is a year-round resident here and it's a rare day when I don't see several zipping around the garden. It seems that they must have had a successful breeding season this past spring because there are at least a dozen of them around now. They dart into the feeders, grab a seed (or mealworm) and then zip off eat their prize. The have extensive vocabularies and the flock constantly keeps in touch with each other with a serious of soft whistles, chips and calls.
We are having the first winter-like day today with temperatures hovering in the low 30's (F) with gusty winds. The bitter conditions are in direct contrast to the brilliant sunshine. The plethora of butterflies that I was enjoying a mere 10 days ago seems like a distant memory now.
Temps going into the teens tonight, so both bird-baths are plugged in and I'll put out some extra seed tonight (even though there are plenty of seed heads all over the garden still.) I suspect that some of the birds will make use of the nest boxes to stay warm tonight, especially if the wind continues.
Thanks for the encouraging words on my abstract attempt yesterday. I did some reading on abstract photography and there are some things I'd like to try - good winter projects when we all get tired of seeing titmice, woodpeckers, jays and cardinals.
Have a great weekend!
