Reflections Under the Bridge
B and I went for a lovely walk through Lord Ancrum's wood today. The river was very low, the lowest I have seen it in a long time. It did make it easier to get closer to the river to get this view of the reflections under the Maiden Bridge, which made an almost perfect circle.
Most of the streams than run through the tunnels under the footpath into the river, were almost dried up too, this meant B was able to crawl through them. It's one of her favourite things to do on this walk.
The Maiden Bridge is an almost completely original 15th century bridge, named after Margaret Tudor, who crossed it in 1503 on her way to Edinburgh after her marriage to James 4th of Scotland. She was a very young maiden, being only 14 at the time, whilst James was already 30. It was this marriage that eventually led to the Union of the Crowns just over a hundred years later, as James 6th was her Great Grandson and the only living descendant of the Tudor family, after the death of Elizabeth 1st.
