Breakthrough... (on Remembrance Sunday)
After a very late start to the day, a walk with MrM and Louie on Weetwood Moor. Bitterly cold, and thick cloud today, though the sun broke through for a few minutes as we walked, and I couldn't resist yet another shot or two of the Cheviot. Never tire of this view!
Called in to the garden centre on the way home for a couple of planters, before walking over to the milk bar for refreshment - we've been saying for months that we'll try it. My freshly made scone was delicious, and MrM enjoyed his toasted teacake, so we'll almost certainly go back!
Courtyard tidied, pansies planted and plants watered (we've had very little rain recently, believe it or not!) this afternoon, and delicious roast dinner (cooked by MrM) eaten. About to tackle the washing up before we sit down in front of a film. How the weekend has flown...
A Poem for Remembrance Day
"The inquisitive mind of a child”
Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?
Selling poppies in town today.
The poppies, child, are flowers of love.
For the men who marched away.
But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
Why not a beautiful rose?
Because my child, men fought and died
In the fields where the poppies grow.
But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?
Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood, my child.
The blood that our soldiers shed.
The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.
Why does it have to be black?
Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.
For the men who never came back.
But why, Mummy are you crying so?
Your tears are giving you pain.
My tears are my fears for you my child.
For the world is forgetting again.
