Stained glass

Sunday
The church we go to now has some beautiful stained glass windows. This is the Wesleyan Window. John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church, is represented by a heart, cross, dove and flame, reminiscent of his religious experience and description of it “My heart was strangely warmed”. Above, the evangelical and missionary spirit of Methodism is symbolized by the Methodist circuit rider, referring to clergy in the earliest years of the United States who were assigned to travel around specific geographic territories to minister to settlers and organize congregations.
After lunch, Roger did another hour’s work in the garden, before cleaning himself up so we could drive downtown to hear a concert by the Vocal Arts Ensemble at Memorial Hall which, like its neighbour Music Hall, has recently undergone a renovation. The program featured a new commissioned work by a young American composer for the Vocal Arts Ensemble and the Cincinnati Children’s Choir, Bach’s Ascension Oratorio, and the highlight of the program, Mozart’s Requiem. We got down there 30 minutes early, to listen to the Children’s Choir who were doing a short performance before the main concert - they were really good.
Thankful today for the many varied musical events we have available in the Cincinnati area.
