Kalaw Railway Station

Although we weren't immediately struck by the place, we grew to love Kalaw with its British-colonial-era buildings, rather out of place alongside golden pagodas and colourful hill tribe fabrics. The train trundles through the town a few times a day, blasting its hooter to give people plenty of warning.
Unlike neighbouring countries such as China, Thailand and India, Myanmar hasn't modernised its railway system so taking the train is a much slower and less attractive option than driving, even though it's very cheap.
