The two legends of Silent Pool

The Saxon Legend: A woodcutters daughter was pursued in this Pool whilst bathing naked by evil Prince John; she got out of her depth and her brother tried to rescue her but both perished in the cold, still waters and the grieving woodcutter never found their bodies. To this day the pale apparition of a woman can sometimes be seen floating, post-Raphaelite like, on the surface of the water.

The modern legend: A beautiful woman tried to climb the hill by the Silent Pool and struggled because she felt unfit and was not slim enough. It made her nearly weep. Supported by her loyal soul mate she lost a lot of weight and went back many moons later and conquered the steep and rocky incline in triumph. To this day, you can see them sitting on a settee and smiling at how things have changed and how much they love each other.

If you are interested, Silent Pool is a real place just outside of Guildford; and one of the above legends I know to be true ...
