Back to the smoggy city

My final full day in India, and I had arranged a full day tour of Delhi.

I was collected from the hotel and we headed to our first stop, Qutub Minar, a UNESCO World Heritage site which shows the history of different invasions over time of Delhi.

From there we went to a Hindu temple (no photography allowed) and then to the Delhi version of the Gate of India.

This, like the one in Mumbai, was very crowded with tourists, but is different in that there is a soldier guarding the eternal flame.

We moved on to stop at a mosque near the old city, however, this was closed to tourists for the midday prayers, so we headed into the old city and the markets there. Parts of this were the same as my previous evening tour, but with many more stalls open and people around. Delhi's markets are busier in the afternoon apparently, where Kolkata's are busier first thing.

Having spent some time in the various markets, including buying some more tea and some spices (from a gentleman with a wonderful English accent who had moved from London to Delhi in his youth, we then headed to our final destination - Gandhi's tomb.

The smog in the city seemed no different to me but according to the official status the air quality had improved to "Very Poor" and some of the restrictions had been lifted.

It's off home tomorrow, I'll be the one with the central heating turned up high and wrapped in woolly jumpers under a blanket as temperatures are forecast to be about 20C lower.
