Leighton Moss

Today's the day .......................... not to see bearded tits

We headed off to the RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss this afternoon.

We'd been told that this was the time of the year when you are almost guaranteed to see bearded tits. Their diet changes from insects to seeds around now - and they need to eat grit to help their digestion. The RSPB wardens helpfully put out grit for them and so this is when you can catch sight of these normally very illusive little birds.

There were lots of people at Leighton Moss all hoping the same thing - and lots of very expensive camera equipment ready to catch the moment. I'm sorry to say however that as far as I am concerned they remain very illusive - because I never saw any.

Will did though. He happened to be in the right place at the right time and he managed to get some pictures. So if you want to see them, you'll have to ask him ..........................
