You Don't Ever Let Go

of the thread. Our hands after practice. Tough weekend for the Oakers. The brother of one of our players died in a car accident Saturday night. It's hard to know how best to proceed with everyone - we're getting there.

I told them a thing or two from my heart, and they listened, and it was good. In the end, I left them with a William Stafford poem (probably my favorite):

The Way It Is

There's a thread you follow. It goes among things that change. But it doesn't change. People wonder about what you are pursuing. You have to explain about the thread. But it is hard for others to see. While you hold it you can't get lost. Tragedies happen; people get hurt or die; you suffer and get old. Nothing you do can stop time's unfolding.
You don't ever let go of the thread.

-William Stafford-
