Thanksgiving in NYC
This should probably be a picture from the Terra Blues Bar much later in the day given that the whole reason for us coming was to join their annual Jimi Hendrix celebration. But finding a good spot for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade was such a bonus you have a giant inflatable Grinch instead of a cool Blues dude. There was also a bonus street show outside the Public Library and even a little shopping as it turns out everything is far from closed in Manhattan on Thanksgiving. I guess the temptation of 3 million visitors is hard to resist.
As promised it was a day of walking (21km to be precise) and eating - breakfast in the hotel, lunch at Parker & Quinn’s and dinner at The Smith, East Village. Trying not to recreate a Friends’ episode we opted for the Thanksgiving menu only at the latter and had a splendid insight into Turkey and all the Fixings, even if we couldn’t begin to eat them all.
The tribute to Hendrix was a three set offering from Slam Allen and his band and was stunning.
Oh, and the Empire State was dressed like Christmas which possibly made me happiest of all*.
