Group therapy classes for the girls
On the front bench, furthest to the right and wearing the red t-shirt is the mighty Ruth.
Ruth is a nurse, but has now almost finished studying to be a psycho-social counselor and will be leaving us to go back home to her family in Lilongwe. We were fortunate enough to have Ruth work with us on Saturday's where she took some of the girls for one-to-one counselling sessions.
Ruth was a highly valued member of the Wells For Zoe team and the girls adored her. One of the greatest achievements of her counselling sessions was the story of one girl who was unable to speak at the start. At first, Ruth just sat beside her in silence. After a few sessions and over time, the girl began to speak and Ruth could finally get to work with assisting this girl with her issues. The improvement and the smile that eventually came in the proceeding weeks was amazing progress.
Group therapy sessions were also put in place where important issues such as sexual health, relationships and education were discussed in an open manner and most importantly - free from any judgement.
We wish Ruth the very best of luck with her final exams and a safe trip home to Lilongwe before she starts her new job.
