Bonfire

In theory, olive prunings thicker than my thumb become firewood and pieces thinner than that are minced by our electric goat (garden shredder) and added to the compost heap. In practice if those little twiggy bits are left lying around unminced for too long they become tough, and even though the mincer can cope with that, feeding them into its mouth is a lot more difficult. We have yet to commence the pruning of the olive trees, this is just the clear-up after the snow in January and we are burning the little twiggy bits off the more useful loggy bits. As required by law, our bonfire is during daylight hours. We also keep it small to avoid scorching the trees nearby.
