Weather
One thing about the West Coast, it always has "weather". That may be good weather, or bad weather. Today's weather, not so good.
But that was totally fine. Had a sleep in for a change, first in a while. Rain on the roof, so I checked to see that the river bed I was parked in was flooded. Nope, all good.
Did some work while I had breakfast, eventually setting off around 11.30, destination unknown. Stopped at the Haast visitor centre, always interesting, and then started down the road to Jacksons, literally the end of the road on the Coast. Didn't mean to go all the way, but I did, I was enticed! Bad weather, moody skies, seas and mountains. Perfect!
Had lunch at the "Cray Pot", one of only a handful of buildings in the small village. And yes, all the fish are local I was told (except the squid) and yes, you pay a large premium for food here ($18 for blue cod and chips) but hey, it's a holiday and they can't get much business. And yes, it was super yummy, worth the extravagance.
Back up the coast and a few stops for photos, such as this one. And then up and over Haast Pass. Bad weather again, as in super windy! But got thru that and ended up at Kidds Bush at Lake Hawea. The only person here, super beautiful. Dinner, a wine, and an early night.
Pick family up tomorrow and my camper will be quite full, untidy, and noisy!
Oh yes, posting is sporadic, just had 2 days without phone or internet access. Stressful ;-)
