Berry nice!
One of the new visitors to my garden is the Figbird. After identifying the female Figbird last month, I added her here on September 24th.
Since then I haven't noticed very many Figbirds around at all, until today, when there seemed to be some excitement in one of our Bangalow Palms.
About half a dozen Figbirds, both male and female, were having a wonderful feast on the seeds of the palm, which look like tiny red berries.
The male Figbird, as is the case with many animal and bird species, are by far the most colourful of the birds and it is very easy to destinguish between the male and female birds. The male has a wide red ring around each eye, which you should be able to notice clearly in the photo. Perhaps going large would be better to see the details.
In other news, I saw the magpie babies again today. They are still very fluffy on the chest and very wonky fliers but they seem to be out of the nest now and pecking around the grass, looking for bugs with their parents. There are two babies and they are so cute!
Thank you so much for the wonderful response you all gave to yesterday's blip of "Larry". Kookaburras really are fascinating birds, with the most beautiful personalities. I wish you could all have the opportunity to see a kookaburra in real life for yourselves and to hear their laughter. I've lived in Australia my entire life and still smile when I hear and see them. :)
