Happy as the Speed of Light
Tonight The Boy and I layered up for the cold and headed out to Arthur's Seat. We had booked to see the Speed of Light. We were supposed to be running in it on the 22nd but due to a combination of me taking a really bad asthma attack up the hill on the training day and The Boy upsetting a muscle in his knee, we decided it probably wise to pull out.
I know we were supposed to be watching the runners in their light suits making little patterns across the hill, but to be honest, I think both of us enjoyed the walk more. Audience members were given light staves with light at the bottom and a little movement activated flashy light at the top. They then were guided slowly up the hill, pausing at points to watch the runners and with their own light trails forming part of the performance. The walk up the hill and the views over the city were spectacular. We also had some fun with the sticks when we were stopped. I regretted the layers as it was far warmer than I had expected. I'd taken the monopod but hadn't allowed for the buffering effect the wind would have on the camera. In hindsight I regret not doing as some blippers (and many other photographers) did and making an evening to wander up the hill with the tripod to get some closer/off road shots of the runners.
